Glorious and Mighty Choral Arrangment

One of the highlights of WorshipGod08, and there were many, was the conference choir singing Glorious and Mighty on the last morning. Based on Psalm 96, it’s a song written by Todd Twining and Joel Sczebel, with some lyric tweaking by me. Unfortunately, the audio/video didn’t turn out that well, so I wont’ be posting them.

But a number of people have requested the arrangement and it’s finally available. The version I arranged for the conference didn’t have any piano part, just the voices. So I added a basic piano accompaniment if you’re just using piano. I think it sounds best with a full band backing it, though.

UPDATED CHOIR PARTS (10/03/08): You can download the choir parts with piano accompanment here. A guitar chart that follows the choir arrangement is available here.

UPDATED CHARTS AND SAMPLE (10/18/08): You can download congregational charts for Glorious and Mighty from the Sovereign Grace Store here, and listen to a sample here.

Thanks so much – I appreciate you taking the time to get this on paper and out to folks. I just bought 16 recent Sov Grace CDs to give out to our choir as prizes, and I can’t wait to teach them this song.

Any update on the potential shift to WorshipGod09 (avoiding conflict with T4G)? Two reasons – I’m working on ’09 budgets in October, and I’d like to recommend an “arranging for choir” breakout seminar.

    Drew,

Thanks for asking. I’ll post on this in a few days, but yes, we’re going ahead with WorshipGod09. The dates will be August 5-8. Thanks for your encouragement.

    Bob,

Being in the choir for this piece was a great experience. I was just thinking about doing it here, so the arrangement is a real blessing, and in just the perfect moment, which is the way God makes provision for what we need. Thanks so much.

Looking forward to what’s in store in August ’09.

I was really hoping to get a copy of this arrangement – it was so gorgeous! THANKS!

Just wanted to say that we taught this song in August to our congregation (after hearing it at WorshipGod08) and it has truly served our congregation. I can’t say enough thanks to those of you who work hard to produce good resources like this. Thank you.

When I got back from the conference, I was so eager for my band and choir to do “Glorious and Mighty” that I made my own (much less complex) choral arrangement, and we did it about a month ago. Now I wish I had waited a little bit! Oh well. Great resource, Bob. Thanks for making it available.

    Bob,

Thanks so much for posting the “Glorious and Mighty” choral arrangement with piano accompaniment and the band chart. Our church is planning on putting together an ensemble to do the arrangement. I was in the choir at the WG08 conference and have what we used there, but it did not have the piano part. So, this post has been a real service and blessing to me. Thanks for all you do to glorify our Savior.

Any chance you could post the recording from last Sunday at CLC? I’m curious to hear how it turned out, and hopeful that the quality will be better than the WG recording. :-)

    Nick,

I’m working on getting the recording from this past Sunday for possible posting. I’d like to hear it first…although I’ve gotten many reports that it was outstanding.

    Bob,

Thanks for posting this. Prior to the CLC choir performance, I asked about the reference and meaning to the phrases, “fearful in wonder” & “fearful in praises”. Would you please enlighten me? Thanks!

  11. Bob Kauflin October 2, 2008 at 8:47 AM #

    Craig,

Thanks for asking. The phrase “fearful in praises” is an extrapolation of Ps. 96:4. It’s saying that the praises of God are fearful, that is, full of fear, reverence, and awe. Is that helpful?

    Bob,
Thanks so much for making this arrangement available. Singing this song as a part of the WG08 choir, especially under Todd’s direction, was definitely one of the highlights for me. I can’t wait for our choir to sing it. The fact that you guys make so many resources available for free or low cost is truly amazing to me, a huge breath of fresh air, and, I’m assuming, will receive significant rewards from our Savior.

A couple of technical questions about the arrangement: 1) The 1st ending at the end of p. 13 (m.122) – should that be a dotted quarter tied to a quarter followed by an 1/8 rest (minus the tie lines)? 2) Should there be a measure added in between m.122 & m.123 (2nd ending) that contain the same notes in the first ending and then tied to the notes in m.123? Just wondering.

    Tim,

Thanks for your encouragement. And THANKS for the catches. You’re right on both counts. I’ve updated the download.

    Dear Bob,

Is this a brand new song, or was it a more simple piece that you all then worked from to form the choir arrangement? I really like it and want to teach it to my house-fellowship, but the version posted isn’t quite right for our small group to use in our weekly worship together. If nothing else is available, I might take the version you posted and chop it down to simple verses and chorus. Is that allowed?

    Stephen,

I updated the post to show where you can get the lyrics and chord charts and listen to a sample. Thanks for asking.

    Bob,
Is there any video or audio of Glorious and Mighty with the ensemble from WG08 available? I searched YouTube like a maniac in search for it and wasn’t able to find anything. Please, oh please, tell me that something is available!
I praise the Lord for you Bob. I praise Him because He has given us worship leaders someone to point us who God is and what He has done through His Son by His Spirit! Thank you for seeing the Savior and knowing that it is He who provides the good works for you like the Scripture says in Ephesian 2:10.

    Bob,

Thank you so much for posting this arrangement! Ever since I attended Worship God ’08 I have been wanting to do this song with a choir. It has been very powerful on its own, but I am so excited to talk to our choir director, who leads worship for a little more traditional service, and propose a combined effort! We are really working towards more unity between the different services here, and this is going to be HUGE. What a blessing! Thank you so much.
