On Vacation

Posted by: Bob Kauflin In: Miscellaneous

From Sept. 14-28 I’ll be here with my family and a two other families. The only ones who can’t make it this year are my son, Devon, and his wife, Kristine. They had to stay behind because their son is going to be born any day.

Maybe I’ll blog. Maybe I won’t…

Hi, Bob: I found your blog today after searching again to see if you had written a “sequel” to “Heroic Piano.” I discovered the book in 1990 and have played it so often it’s wearing out. This morning I played “Holy, Holy, Holy” as a prelude before the congregation sang the same song as a processional hymn. As always, when I play one of your arrangements, several people commented on how moving and worshipful the piece was. I appreciate the complex rhythms, interesting harmonies and the fresh way of looking at hymns we think we know. I’ve never found anything that compares. Most piano hymn arrangements seem to be too many arpeggios with a modulation to a higher key and some big chords at the end! I understand you’re moving in a different direction now, but if you are ever seized with the desire to publish some more piano hymn arrangements, I’ll be first in line to get a copy! Thanks for listening. –Carolyn

Hello! I just wanted you to know that I have read your worship matters book and I found it very enlightening and inspiring! I am an aspiring “music guy” and I’ve recommended the book to the leaders at my church as well. Your writing has blessed me tremendously. Oh! I am also going to be present at the upcoming conference in Minneapolis on the 26th through the 28th- my birthday present haha! I am looking forward to it! Anyways, just sending you a friendly thank you and I pray that God blesses you as you continue your ministry!

  • Bob Kauflin: Ted, I felt bad about using the word "stupid" as well. I mentioned it when I got up later. Just the first word that came to mind...
  • Ted Nieto: When this happens, as it has to all of us from time to time, it is good to take it in stride and move forward. The congregation will see your humanity
  • Ted Nieto: I serve as pastor of worship and find it quite refreshing that there is a biblical science, if you will, in the way we as Christians approach Praise a
