New Look for Worship Matters

Posted by: Bob Kauflin In: —News

Welcome to the new look of Worship Matters, designed by my son-in-law, Kerrin Russell.

Kerrin is married to my oldest daughter, Megan. Not only is he a godly husband and dad, he’s a true servant. It helps that he’s great at solving computer problems and fixing things. The most recent example is my blog site. Kerrin was the one who originally suggested I start a blog, and over the past year or so he’s been wanting me to update the look. Knowing that I’d never get to it, he did it himself. BTW, the pictures in the banner were taken by my 18 year old daughter, Brittany, who runs a design and photography business with her older sister, Megan.

We’re still working out some problems, but I think it will eventually better serve those of you who stop by. If you’re using Internet Explorer you may have some difficulties viewing everything correctly. We’re working to solve those issues. Some of the changes we’re making are:

  • a less cluttered look
  • a song player on the Music page
  • multi-lingual translation. Google translator enables the blog to be read in Italian, Spanish, German, French, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Czech, and Arabic. Just click one of the flags in the upper right hand corner. The translation is literal so it’s far from perfect. But I think it’s better than nothing.
  • when you click on a Scripture reference, you’ll immediately see the whole verse or passage. Click on the reference again and it goes away. Try it here: Col. 3:16-17.
  • colors come down when you move the cursor over one of the tabs up top. Not very functional, but cool.

Please let me know what you think about the new look, and if you find anything that’s not working.

Love the new site Bob.

Just wondering, would it still be possible to put title and author on your reading lists?sometimes it’s almost impossible to read the little jpg’s of the front covers. (or that may be something techy that i’m missing?)

Nicely done, especially the banner & menus. May I ask what software you used to create it? Thanks!

Allan,

For those that enjoy looking at Bob’s picture, we have included it on the About page. It’s a new, not blue and happy picture which I’m sure you will enjoy.

Looks nice. Really like the photography.
FYI on your links page there’s a typeo under Desiring God Ministries and your description of Sovereign Grace Ministries is apparently cut off in mid-stream.

Hey,
Great work … aren’t redesigns fun? I’ve got Chris (from ChrisMoncus.com) redoing my site at HighestPraise.Com … finally, we’re moving all those static html pages into one big WordPress-driven CMS site! can’t wait!

For the Kingdom,
Fred

Kerrin -

Great job! What wordpress theme did you use or is this completely custom? I’m thinking of redesiging our church website and I like that big intro window you have in the front page with other blog entries in the bottom.

Really like the look of the new site. I am an internet explorer user and thought i would let you know that when i click on to continue reading the blue line that has contact Bob, RSS feed writing in it cuts the page blocking a line of writing. Hope this isn’t too troublesome to fix – i know nothing!!!

Wow! No more blue!! I think it looks great. Also, I am running Safari browser on a Mac, and I haven’t seen any errors.

God’s grace to you,

Ryan

Penny,

It should be working on Internet Explorer now. I’d try deleting your web page history. Go to Tools/Internet Options and Delete Files. That will delete all the copies of web pages you’ve stored. Then type in worshipmatters.com in the URL bar. See if that works.

Patrick,

Thanks! It is a completely custom theme. However i was originally inspired by the Hemingway Theme for WordPress. It has a very simple home page giving you a good idea of what is available on the whole blog.

Hey Bob, Is there any chance you could do a book review on Paul S. Jones’ book “Singing and Making Music”?

Most of the links on the first page don’t work for me. None of the top categories (About, Archives, etc.) or the ones at the bottom (Blogging to Worship God, Monday Devotions, etc.) will come up until I go to one of the links on the right side. Then everything seems to work all right.

And I really miss the “recent comments” section that was on the left side of the old blog page. That way I could see comments that people had left on older posts without having to search through them.

It looks nice, but I don’t find it as convenient. I liked having most stuff on the one page so that I wasn’t having to click on stuff as much. But I am a “like my ruts” kind of person.

Lindele,

Thanks for your constructive criticism! What browser are you using? This would help to figure out what is not working right.

How else is your index finger going to get a work out if not by clicking?

I will try to figure out if there is a practical way to incorporate recent comments onto the home page. For now, because you asked so nicely, you will find the recent comments on the left hand side of any post page.

Thank you, Kerrin! I’m using Mozilla Firefox. Sometimes (like when I use my bank’s billpay feature) I have to use Internet Explorer but I have all my bookmarks and stuff on Firefox.

Lindele,

You can now read recent comments once you open up any post. Kerrin is a can-do kind of guy.

One flag on the right hand corner for Czech is China flag. You might want to correct that :)

I think my favorite feature of the new website (even more than the cool color bands that come down when you scroll over the menus) is the that Bible passages are displayed when you click on the references. That is so convenient and helpful. I wish there were a way to include this feature in books, but until then I’ll just keep reading the new and improved worshipmatters.com.
