Subtitle Update

Posted by: Bob Kauflin In: —Worship Matters book

Thank you to everyone who submitted a suggestion and/or ideas for a subtitle for my book. What we finally chose was actually a combination of a number of suggestions. Matt Lowe proposed, “Leading Others to Exult in God’s Glory.” I changed “God’s glory” to “the Greatness of God,” and my friend Ken Boer suggested the word, “encounter” instead of “exult.” That led to the subtitle we’re going with, which is, “Worship Matters: Leading Others to Encounter the Greatness of God.” Both Matt and Ken will be receiving a $50 gift certificate to Barnes and Noble.

While I could have gone with no subtitle, and I certainly don’t think a subtitle makes or breaks a book, I think this subtitle is just specific and vague enough at least to arouse interest for someone who is looking through the plethora of books on worship. Here’s what I like about it:

“Leading” communicates that the person reading this book is some kind of leader. That might mean a worship leader, a pastor, or someone who wants to influence others.
“Encounter” implies that I’m going to be talking about more than simply helping people understand truth about God. We’re interested in helping them meet with and be changed by God as a result of knowing him better.
“The greatness of God” is what worship is about.

In any case, I’m currently waiting for an edited copy to come back from Crossway. When I receive it, I’ll make any remaining changes, and send it back. The book is due out in April, Lord willing.

Congratulations. Thanks for your ministry to the church at large. I’ve been blessed (and I believe because of this, my church too has been blessed)by the influence your writing and music has had on my life and ministry. I look forward to reading your book! Can’t wait.

I like this subtitle! I don’t think I’ve commented before (or often), but I thought I would say that I look forward to hearing more about & getting your book.

That works… Though my favorite was Vickie´s “Gospel Song”. Hope it all goes well. This part is both exciting and annoying (depending on your editor it can be more one than the other). The really boring part is reading the proofs (it helps to get someone totally new to have a look over for you).

Hey Bob, your book sounds incredible! I can’t wait till I can get it in my hands and dive deeply into it. If it is half as good as the teaching you gave during the Glorify conference, everyone’s in for an excellent read. Thank you more specifically for the teaching on worshiping the triune God. Your comments and questions cut through all of my defenses and went right to the heart.”Would it make any difference in your life if God was not triune?” What a provoking comment. Thank you and God bless you.
