In the last couple days, I've been more aware of my sin than I have been of the cross, and it's precisely because I've taken a vacation from preaching the gospel to myself. Thank you for reminding me of the "main thing."

My approach comes out of the idea that one of the goals of a corporate worhip service is to "tell the Story"...We do this because we need to be reminded of the Truth of God as Creator, Redeemer, Incarnate One, etc. etc.

We also do this because the story evokes praise. It calls us to worship.

Bob, this is such an important concept... a while back (about a year or so) I began making sure that the gospel was mentioned or sung or focused on at least once during our time of congregational praise singing. I don't think we intentionally forget about the gospel - but we do set it aside and lose sight of it at times.

In my case, I was feeling the nudge (need?) to try and help my congregation refocus and remember whom and what it is they are worshiping when they gather for worship! Too many (though they don't admit it or even see it) are worshiping the music, or the band, or the leader, etc. They THINK they are worshiping God - and, of course, some are. But in today's "American/Christian Idol" worship atmosphere, I think we need to do even a better job (as worship leaders) of helping the congregation realize why we have gathered, who we worship, and - WHAT HE HAS DONE FOR US that actually WARRANTS our worship of Him.

Thanks for reminding us of this!!
